Although Florida enjoys mild temperatures and sunny skies in winter, that doesn’t mean we can skip seasonal home prep altogether.

Even in Florida, winter comes with cooler nights, less daylight, increased rainfall in some regions—and even now and then, a chilly snap that surprises everyone.

In this post, we’ll offer some Florida-specific tips to help you get your home ready for winter, whether you live here year-round, or as a seasonal snowbird. Because even in the Sunshine State, your home deserves a little winter TLC.

While we don’t need a full heating system, make sure the heat function works on your AC unit, to maintain cleaned air filters, and to run a test cycle before cold nights hit.

Also make sure to seal gaps to keep cold out and to reduce energy loss, as well as to seal entry points including attics and garages. As temps cool, rats, mice, ants and roaches seek warmth inside.

Additional Tips:

  • Adjust sprinkler times for shorter daylight and cooler weather.
  • Turn off irrigation during rainier weeks.
  • Clean debris out of gutters and downspouts to prevent water damage.
  • Inspect your roof for loose shingles or leaks, specially before seasonal storms.
  • Install a smart thermostat.

Regardless of how mild the season may be, getting your Florida home ready for winter is crucial for comfort, safety, and lasting upkeep.
